PIRE Publications Announce Major Advances
June 16, 2011
Two papers from PIRE researchers, published in an upcoming special issue of Environmental Microbiology are announcing major advancements in high-temperature nitrogen cycling.
The special issue, entitiled "Life and Applications of Extremophiles," will address recent advancements in our understanding of organisms that live in extreme environments, and the applications of thermophiles that are emerging from that understanding. Included in the special issue are two papers from PIRE researchers:
-
Biological nitrogen fixation in acidic high-temperature geothermal springs in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Hamilton, Trinity L.; Lange, Rachel K.; Boyd, Eric S.; Peters, John W.
Focuses on distribution of biological Nitrogen fixation genes and activity in 14 hot springs in Yellowstone. -
Ammonia oxidation, denitrification and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium in two US Great Basin hot springs with abundant ammonia-oxidizing archaea.
Dodsworth, Jeremy A.; Hungate, Bruce A.; Hedlund, Brian P.
Focuses on coupled measurements of ammonia oxidation, denitrification, and DNRA activity in two hot springs in the United States Great Basin.
