Biology 351: Microbiology
Microbial systems provides in-depth coverage of prokaryotic cell structure, function, genetics, diversity, ecology, and pathogenesis, with an emphasis on microbial metabolism, bacterial genetics and molecular mechanisms.
Credits: 4 Prerequisites BIOL 196, BIOL 197, CHEM 121/121L. Lab: Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory. Notes: Credit not allowed in both BIOL 251 and BIOL 351. Study of microbes as individuals, populations, and communities in freshwater, marine, and terrestrial environments. Topics such as nutrient cycling, biodegradation, and biotechnology discussed from an ecological standpoint. Credits: 3 Prerequisites BIOL 251/351 or consent of the instructor. Lab: No laboratory.
