Jessica Cole defends thesis on natural and lignocellulose-enriched microbial communities

Jessica Cole (UNLV) defended her MS thesis on natural and lignocellulose-enriched microbial communities from Great Boiling Spring, NV. Jessica's study investigated the geochemical controls of microbial diversity and abundance in this high temperature geothermal spring system. She also examined the effects of lignocellulose enrichment on community composition, which yielded important implications for second-generation biofuel applications. Jessica's work is the result of close collaboration with China University of Geosciences, Beijing, where undergraduate researcher Joseph Peacock (REU student from UNLV) completed a summer research program.
